A man who claimed he suffered hearing problems after being struck on the temple with a golf ball was yesterday awarded £18,000 damages by the High Court against Clontarf Golf Club and another golfer.

The court heard Mr George Wilson (49), a print manager, of Beach Park, Portmarnock, Co Dublin, while playing on the 5th tee on July 26th 1992, was hit on the head by a ball struck by Mr James Shalloo of Raheny, Dublin, who was playing nearby.

Mr Justice Murphy awarded Mr Wilson £12,000 for pain and suffering to date and £6,000 for pain and suffering in the future.

The costs issue will be decided next week.
