Airfield Fete
With Enid Blyton a little out of fashion these days, maybe the thoughts of an event that promises lashings of ginger beer isn’t as immediately appealing to children as it is to adults – but it’s one of the ingredients that should make the annual garden fete at Airfield, the urban farm in the Dublin suburb of Dundrum, such fun.
Today’s fete is a determinedly old-fashioned affair, with welly throwing, scones and tea on the lawn, buskers, games, home baking and that stall selling ginger beer. Children can bring books to the book-exchange stall and come away with something new to read. There’s also a chance to see the newest arrival in Airfield, a colt foal called Darcy, and take a nature walk through the wild-flower meadow, with its poppies, cornflowers, thistles and daisies.
The fete begins at noon and runs until 4pm.
Admission costs €6 for adults and €3 for children.
