Speedy drivers get Co Clare couple Tom and Carol to the church on time

A year after they met in September 2012 at the Front Bar in his native Ennis, Co Clare, Tom Garvey proposed to Carol Downes – who is from Querrin – at Dromore Woods.

They were married in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Doonaha, Co Clare, on December 30th last.

Carol found it hard to pick one favourite part of the day but a particularly special memory is “heading from home with my dad and walking up the aisle with him to meet Tom.”

Essential to getting the bride and her bridesmaids – sisters Michelle and Tracey and friend Denise Geaney – to the church on time were wedding drivers Pa Geaney and David “Speedy” Byrne (Michelle and Tracey’s boyfriends).

“We loved having them both involved on the day,” said Carol.

The couple also loved that Tom’s mother, Sheelagh Garvey, made the wedding cake – an impressive feat for her first time.

The groomsmen were Tom’s brother Joe Garvey, his friend Pat Hehir and cousin Conor Hassett.

Carol’s niece Taylor Downes was the flower girl and wore a dress from Monsoon.

At the reception afterwards in Treacys West County Hotel, music came from Final Touch and family friend Pat Keating, who played two jigs on the accordion to get the night going.

After the wedding, Carol and Tom spent 10 nights in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
