Street directory is a boon for peeping Thom's

IT’S GOOD to see that the ever reliable Thom’s Dublin Street Directory is back with a shiny new edition for 2009

IT'S GOOD to see that the ever reliable Thom's Dublin Street Directoryis back with a shiny new edition for 2009 . Around The Blockwas surprised to see a gargantuan advert for debt recovery solicitors Hugh J Ward Co Solicitors on the back cover and another one for debt collection solicitors Croskerrys neatly displayed on the spine.

A sure sign of our troubled times? Well, apparently not. A quick call to Eamon De Valera, whose Irish Press company owns the esteemed publication, put that notion to bed. Croskerrys and Hugh J Ward have been taking out advertisements with Thom’s for donkey’s years, says Mr De Valera.

The 2009 directory is the 157th edition and has 1,930 pages listing 482,000 residential premises, 35,000 business entries on 12,506 streets – great for nosey property journalists, debt collectors, genealogists and for settling disputes over postal codes. It is yours for €268 (including VAT).

The directory was first published in the form of an almanac by Alexander Thom way back in 1844 and has been in its modern street directory form since 1960.
