A proposal to build over 300 apartments on the site of Stillorgan Bowl Leisureplex, involving the construction of a 15-storey block, has prompted over 60 objections.
An Taisce, 18 residents associations and Minister Séamus Brennan are among 62 objectors to the scheme which, if given approval by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, will see the construction of 314 apartments on a 1.59-hectare site on the Stillorgan Road.
Bowling alley brothers Colum and Ciaran Butler's Stillorgan Enterprises is seeking permission to demolish all buildings on the site, which includes the Leisureplex, 18 local authority houses (numbers 62 to 79 St Laurence's Park) and Stillorgan Public Library.
The height and density of the scheme along with traffic and car-parking concerns were among the main issues raised by objectors. Some objectors stated that the scheme was not in keeping and would destroy the character of the area.
Concerns about the loss of privacy and loss of daylight were also raised by neighbouring residents.
The site is located across the road from the Blake's site, home to Bondi Beach nightclub, where Treasury Holdings was earlier this month given the go-ahead for a 215-apartment development, involving the construction of a 12-storey block. The site also includes some council-owned land, which is the subject of a sale agreement between the developers and the council. It is bounded by St Laurence's Park, Lower Kilmacud Rd, the N11/Stillorgan Rd and the Old Dublin Rd.
The plans involve the construction of 15 residential blocks, over 2,200 sq m (23,680 sq ft) of retail space, almost 4,000 sq m (43,056 sq ft) of office space, a crèche, a new public library and over 3,700 sq m (39,826 sq ft) of indoor leisure space. Some 528 car-parking spaces will be provided and vehicle access will be via the existing entrance points at the Dublin Road, and St Laurence's Park with an additional access point at St Laurence's Park. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are due to make a decision on the scheme by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Myrmidon Ltd has re-submitted plans for the redevelopment of Stillorgan Shopping Centre.
