Hand-made kitchen is a recipe for warmth and character

The owners of Deerpark in Westport like a kitchen with warmth and character.

The handmade pine kitchen units were made by a local carpenter and give the kitchen just the right higgledly piggledy country kitchen look. To recreate the look, ask your carpenter to build some standalone units from antique pine.

Pine dressers aren't hard to come by in furniture shops but you can get one made to your own specificiations by East Coast Cabinets (087 6767032).

One in a similar style to that pictured costs between €400-€700. Reclaimed wood or a distressed antique look would cost a bit more.

The corner unit was once a TV cabinet and the saucepans are now where the DVD player used to be. The table and chairs came from Archway stores in Castlebar (094 9023566), run by the owners of Deerpark. A similar table, six chairs and two carvers costs €1,200.
