Lace, feathers and woolly coats: ready for autumn winter?

Rather suitably the rain poured down as BT2 launched their Autumn Winter collection in Fitzwilliam Square. Historically, BT2 has been the store where buyers have a little more fun and newer brands and collaborations are experimented with. This year is no different. The second collection of AG’s design partnership, Alexa Chung x AG, will be introduced, and the Grafton Street store recently saw overnight queuing for their Kanye X Adidas Yeezy Boost collaboration. BT2 Dundrum will also see some new arrivals with a permanent Jo Malone counter and a Charlotte Tilbury pop-up around Christmas.

When it comes to trends and themes, this autumn winter there is something for everyone. Brown Thomas fashion director Shelly Corkey says "We’re not as trend-driven this season. Designers are doing their own thing, whether it’s luxe sportswear or detailed embellishment. It’s how you wear it that matters." A couture gown would not look out of place paired with runners, as cross-over fashion and individual style remains king.

In stores we’ll see soft, feminine styles, but we will also see structured modern fabrics - and knitwear will appear in many forms.  The denim trend is going nowhere, and the 1970s influence remains, but a new source of inspiration comes from the Victorians. This will become apparent in long lace dresses, high necks, dark colours and intricate embellishments. From the 1970s, expect to see cropped flares, jumpsuits, capes, feathers and polo-necks.

This season's colour palette features berry tones, as we have come to expect for autumn winter, as well as mustard, sage and burgundy. In terms of accessories, the cross-body bag will have many excited and the mid-calf boot will be the footwear de jour.
