Status yellow rain warning for west of the country this weekend

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the country this weekend, with a status yellow rainfall warning in place for the western half of the country.

Rain will continue and potentially turn “heavy and thundery” with possible spot flooding in Munster and Connacht on Friday evening.

Further to the east, it will be clearer with isolated showers, Met Éireann said.

The weather will remain “blustery with brisk southwest winds, and gales along west and southwest coasts”. The lowest temperatures are forecast to be between 7 and 10 degrees.

Saturday will be an “unseasonably windy and wet day” with mostly strong southerly winds.

Rain will persist over the western half of the country, which is expected to be heavy at times.

Whilst it will begin mostly dry across the eastern half of the country, outbreaks of rain will extend later in the afternoon, Met Éireann said.

The highest temperatures will be 11 to 17 degrees. Temperatures will be coolest across Munster and Connacht.

A mix of sunny spells will arrive on Sunday, alongside widespread heavy and possibly thundery showers. Temperatures will reach a high of 13 to 16 degrees.

Sunday night will see a mix of clear spells and scattered showers, which will be heaviest and most frequent in the west and northwest. The lowest temperatures are forecast at 7 to 11 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

A number of festivals and outdoor gigs are taking place across the weekend.

The annual LGBTQ+ Pride parade will return to Dublin city centre this weekend after two years of Covid-19 cancellations. The parade will start from the Garden of Remembrance just after noon on Saturday.

Family-focused Kaleidoscope Festival kicked off at Russborough House and Demesne on Friday and will continue over the weekend with performances from The Divine Comedy, James Morrison and Feeder. Attendees can also enjoy interactive workshops, yoga on the front lawn and carnival rides at the vintage funfair.
