The painter Gwen O’Dowd has long been fascinated by the sea or, more accurately, by the rhythmic, relentless action of water on rock, day by day, year on year. Her densely textured, richly coloured compositions combine the flow and force of water with a sense of geological time. As the title suggests, her focus here is on the poise and power of waves.

The great thing about an actor writing their own material is that they can play to their own strengths, and over the course of three loosely linked plays, Pat Kinevane has crafted a stage persona so compelling you could watch him perform every night of the week. In Forgotten, he plumbs the lives of the elderly for nuggets of wisdom. In Underneath, he turns his attention to a disfigured young woman. Both shows draw on the heightened style of Kabuki theatre and Kinevane's strengths as a physical performer. Beautiful, emotionally stirring stuff.
