As they stretch ever outwards into areas that are typically the preserve of traditional English folk, Tyneside's The Unthanks bend to no one. Their latest album, Mount the Air, takes this approach even further by blending earthy vocals with virtually symphonic song arrangements. If we're lucky, there might even be clog dancing.

HIP-HOP

Jay Electronica

While the wait for Jay Electronica's (above) debut album proper goes on, the fact that the enigmatic rapper is playing a few rare live shows this month may be cause for optimism. It's eight years since the New Orleans native first appeared on our radars with the ambitious Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) and he's had a chequered career since. Apparently, the album Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) is ready to go. so here's hoping it gets a 2015 release. Unless Kendrick Lamar or Run the Jewels touch down for a secret gig, this is probably Dublin's hip-hop show of the season.
