Born in Sligo, Darn Thorn studied art in Australia and is currently based in Cork. He develops intriguing projects usually based on photography and installation. For this project, Thorn interviewed local people in Co Cork about rural sites that are personally significant to them. Then he set out to photograph these locations “using re-imagined motifs borrowed from pictorial photography and romanticism”, exploring personal meaning and representational convention.
