The Dublin auction rooms O'Reilly's held what the company describe as a "complete success with great results" for its fine art sale last Sunday. An 18-carat Victorian, five-stone diamond ring sold for £4,100 and an antique diamond spray brooch fetched £1,500.
A Victorian, cushion-shaped, diamond solitaire ring of 2.10 carats went for £2,900, a Victorian marquise diamond cluster mounted on a modern gold bar brooch realised £1,800 and an 18carat diamond and sapphire cluster ring sold for £2,000.
Among the silver, a George IV salver made by William Nowlan of Dublin in 1820 and engraved with the coat of arms of the Carroll family fetched £1,250 and a George III Sheffield wire dish ring made £185. A late 19th century nickel-plated timepiece surpassed its pre-sale estimate of £200-£300 to go under the hammer for £460, with the vendor donating the money to the National Guide Dog Association.
