PATRICE Loconte's Ridicule, which received a best foreign language film Oscar nomination this week, took the major prize for best French film of the year at the Cesar awards in Paris last weekend. The best director prize was shared by Loconte and Bertrand Tavernier (for Capitaine Conan). Best actress went to Fanny Ardant for Pedale Douce and best actor to newcomer Philippe Torreton for Capitaine Conan.
