Bryn Terfel is, by his own admission, now beginning to move away from the Mozart roles associated with him in the past and onto the great Wagnerian parts, which he plans to focus on in the next phase of his career. This recital, conceived as a tribute to the composer in his anniversary year, is also something of a farewell to this repertoire as it includes arias he has sung on stage and some from roles that are new to him. The programme shows how appropriate Tertel's fine bass baritone voice is for these arias and how his subtle differentiation brings the disparate characters created by Mozart and his librettists to life in vocal terms.
