Shuffle: Heavy Nedal music and inspiration from This American Life

The week’s best clips, singles, downloads and audiostreams

OKilly Dokilly -  All That is Left
Self-released Hi-dilly-ho, neighbourinos! Okilly Dokilly are a bespectacled, moustachioed Ned Flanders-themed death metal band from Phoenix, Arizona. This demo is a tribute to their favourite Simpsons character's place of business, the Leftorium. I personally prefer their, as yet unwritten, unproduced and entirely- nonexistent-except-in-my- imagination magnum opus Feels Like I'm Wearing Nothing At All (Nothing At All!).

Girl Band - Paul
This column once described Girl Band as sounding like they recorded their music in the back of a moving Hiace van. (Fact check: the Dublin rockers actually record at Bow Lane Studios blah blah blah . . . ) That harsh, uncompromising sound remains unchanged here. Luckily, the hilarious accompanying video, in which professional jealousies and sexual rivalries among the cast of a Barney the Dinosaur-style kids' TV show spill over into violence on set, should sweeten the pill for any stubborn unbelievers.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - January 10th, 2014
Yowza! The track itself is meh, but the episode of This American Life that apparently inspired it – about a real life female vigilante in Juárez, Mexico named Diana, the Hunter of Bus Drivers – has a gristly, Tarantino-esque appeal that is likely to float your boat. Good job , TWIAB, for bringing this terrible story to our attention! (And for totally undermining your own band name in the process . . . )

Hailee SteinFeld - Love Myself
The Oscar-nominated actor for the Coen Brothers' True Grit has turned her attention to music, enlisting the support of Mattman & Robin. The New York Post called Love Myself an "ode to masturbation". But that's just, like, their opinion, man.
