Pop Corner: Chris Martin compares Rihanna to Sinatra

Meanwhile, Two Door Cinema Club are growing up, Hozier has had enough of Church and Zayn likes everyone who fancies him

TRACK OF THE WEEK
Two Door Cinema Club Are We Ready
The boys are back and they've changed. Gone are the yelping, optimistic lyrics of yore, replaced with low key anxiety and worry. Welcome to your 20s guys! But seriously, this track sounds like the Golden Period of The Strokes and is nuanced, catchy and multi-layered. Here's to growing up if it leads to more the same.

Hero of the week is Rihanna. You see, Chris Martin told the Guardian that, scientifically speaking, Rih's voice is perfecto. "She is the Frank Sinatra of our generation. She can turn anything into gold with that voice. Here's the thing: if you speak to a good singing teacher about great opera singers, they will talk about consistency of tone... Rihanna has this thick tone, so it's very hard to annoy anybody. It's like a beautifully squeezed tube of toothpaste. When you think of Rihanna's voice you think of this whole, rich thing, solid like a tree trunk, and. Drake is pretty similar. But Rihanna's voice is just delicious for your ear. Sinatra had the same thing; anything he sang sounded pleasing to most people."

Meanwhile, Zayn told Paper magazine that he's cool with whoever may fancy him. "If girls find me attractive, then that's a cool thing. If guys find me attractive, then that's a cool thing as well. It's sick. It's a compliment. I'm blessed by whoever was up there to be who I am and be able to do what I do."

Zero of the week is Take Me To Church. Hozier told Zane Lowe that he's trying to put some space between him and his famous track. "I try to make a habit of distancing myself from a song. You hear it played, you just walk out of the room. You just put it behind you. The way I look at it is, a hit song that connects, and it connected beyond my wildest dreams, but a hit song is not a career, a debut album is not a career, you have to keep looking forward to making the next thing."
