Artist: Hibla Gerzmava, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, Conductor: Vladimir Spivakov
Genre: Classical
Label: Meloydia: CD 10 02212

This is an impressive debut recital, recorded live at a concert in the Svetlanov Hall, Moscow in 2013.

Hibla Gerzmava was born in Abkhazia, but has spent most of her career to date in Moscow, where she is highly regarded.

From the evidence of her performance here, it is easy to see why, as she brings a strong artistic personality to the arias performed, coupled with a fine lyric soprano voice that is supported by an apparently secure technique.

Her singing of the Verdi arias is exemplary, and her phrasing in the helter-skelter duet from L'elisir d'amore is very impressive.

The great Casta Diva from Norma may expose some shortcomings in her vocal range and technique, but this is only a small quibble in what is a fine debut.
