What chinks of light do emerge in this version come courtesy of singer Matt Berninger dry humping random objects in the video. A star is born.

The first single from her forthcoming album, 21, was co-written with hotshot indie producer Paul Epworth (who co-wrote and produced several tracks on Florence the Machine’s debut album.) Raw and bluesy, it showcases Adele’s voice to great effect.

The third single from Chromeo’s Business Casual album features backing vocals by La Roux, and the video has a whole lot more of keyboard player Patrick Gemayel’s ample man-boobs than anyone would choose to see on a full stomach. Still, one of the weirdest, funniest and sexiest videos of the year.

This seasonal effort by former Fat Lady Sings singer Nick Kelly comes with a note tipping it for this year’s Christmas No 1 slot. The song tells of the singer’s failure to buy his girlfriend a Christmas tree. Even in these times of economic woe, you’d have to be a real Scrooge not to stump up for a tree.
