936 Weird World Records***

Originally released only in North America (to much acclaim, we may add), 936 sees the introduction of husband-and- wife team Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis to this side of the pond. Delayed to the point where the couple are already working on the follow-up, 936 is such a fine piece of work that it would be silly to sideline it until the second album pops out.

Yes, it's a bit skittish and brattish (A mazing and Wonderfulis optimistically titled, while Hey Sparrowis truly for the birds). But for the most part this is a fruitful, immersive mix of propulsive dub ( Birds of Paradise Dub Version) and persuasive psych-pop/krautrock/ disco (say hello to the beautiful All the Sun That Shines, Synthyand Marshmellow Yellow). Oddly beguiling, nicely odd, this one oozes quality that is in turn spectral and special.
