Imhotep, that engineer, architect and doctor of ancient Egypt fame, gets the nod for many achievements, including designing some of the early pyramids, but this may be his first electronic music credit.

No surprise that Jamal Moss is the man in the frame. He has gone far and wide on previous releases (Africans With Mainframes, Sun God) and a plethora of other alter egos. Here the dancefloor is calling, and The Disco’s of Imhotep is coloured by infectious grooves that are impossible to resist.

Moss often favours an off-kilter approach, but here there’s a much more rigorous mapping at play. For all that, he has lost none of his ability to thrill. Crocodile Skin, Spiritual Alliances and the title track are full of transcendent momentum.
