PAUL RODGERS Live in Glasgow Eagle Vision **

Paul Rodgers - formerly of Free, Bad Company and various associations including Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page - is a man whose voice is one of the most distinctive in "classic gold" rock music. Songs such as Free's All Right Now and Bad Company's Feel Like Makin' Love just wouldn't sound the same if it were not for Rodgers' quite soulful rock vocals. This DVD is your basic on-stage product - the man and his music won't win any awards for innovation, but if you're a meat-and-two-veg rock fan then there's certainly enough here to win you over.

Filmed so that you see the whites of his eyes and the glisten of his perspiration, old pro Rodgers makes all the right moves in a stage show that rigidly sticks to the facts, ma'am. Extras include an interview with the man himself and the fans, old and new. Perhaps in a nod to the more recent converts (and their dads, of course), the DVD is XBox-compatible. www.paulrodgers.com TONY CLAYTON-LEA

LEONARD COHEN Under Review 1934-1977 Chrome Dreams ****

The "Under Review" people, who have previously done Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, Kate Bush and The Smiths, always provide a consistently intelligent analysis. Their DVDs may not be crammed full of whizz-bang extras, but the content, although at times verging on the dry, is quality stuff.

On this you get Cohen's official biographer, Ira Nadel, giving an introduction as a number of people close to Cohen (below) provide very astute commentaries on albums such as Songs Of..., Death Of A Ladies Man and Songs From a Room.

What strikes here most is how this isn't just a compilation of obsequious remarks, but is a more trenchant and critical style commentary. Given its nature, however, this is only for the serious fan. BRIAN BOYD
