SNOOP DOGG

Drop It Like It's Hot ABC/Charly **

While this Dogg has probably had more lives than your average cat by now, the release of his Rhythm & Gangsta album (2004) allowed him to take his eyes off his other enterprises, such as his burgeoning soft-porn empire, and concentrate on the music. After all, thanks to the presence of those in-vogue Neptunes on production duties, the album had hits, something that had been in short supply since Snoop was abandoned by Dr Dre. Drop It Like It's Hot (the DVD) features Snoop back in the limelight on a stage in Brussels and mugging for all he's worth. Naturally, because it's a hip-hop show, there's much footage of the crowd waving their hands in the air like they just don't care, while Snoop and assorted Doggs run through Nuthin' But a G Thang, Murder Was the Case, Gin & Juice, Lets Get Blown and other assorted Dogg-fodder. There's also footage of Snoop from a 2001 Jamaican festival, as well as an audio CD. www.snoppdogg.com Jim Carroll

BOB DYLAN

1975-1981 - Rolling Thunder and the Gospel Years Wienerworld **

This moderately interesting effort is subtitled "a totally unauthorised documentary", so we know what we're getting. Yes, you might yearn for the kind of access Martin Scorsese had for his superlative No Direction Home film, but this exploration of Dylan's '75-'81 period (a sweltering spell that encompassed the Rolling Thunder revue, the Renaldo & Clara movie, and a conversion to Christianity) packs in plenty. Interviews with musicians Spooner Oldham, Scarlet Rivera and Ramblin' Jack Elliott vie for attention with oddities such as Pastor Bill Dwyer, Dylan's Bible class teacher, and former boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. Extras include rare TV interviews. No Dylan songs, mind. www.highway61ent.com Tony Clayton-Lea
