THE fact that one of Shakespeare's characters described the Irish as "rough, rug-headed kerns" need not be a reason for not giving generously. Globe bricks may be purchased for as little as £2 each 1 and an oak peg £5. Groundling tickets cost £5 (the equivalent of one penny 400 years ago), gallery seats range from £5-£20. The theatre complex is open seven days a week and guided tours take place every 30 minutes.
The official opening of The Globe is in June 1997: The season runs until September 21st and performances will include Henry V (directed by Richard Olivier, son of Sir Laurence) and The Winter's Tale.
