FRIDAY

Lee Scratch Perry
Dolan's Warehouse Limerick 9pm €20 dolans.ie.
Also Sat, Galway; Sun, Cork

Now here's a survivor! Rainford Hugh Perry – Godfather of reggae? Creator of dub? Take your pick – makes a rare appearance in Ireland as the 40th anniversary of his Super Ape dub album (listed in Rough Guide's Reggae 100 Essential Albums) looms into view.

Wolf Alice
Mandela Hall Belfast 7pm £16 mandelahall.com.
Also Sat, Dublin

This London band's debut album, My Love is Cool, picked up four stars in The Ticket last June, and then went on to be nominated for the Mercury Prize. We're not saying we told you so, of course, but without further ado we will say that these are potential gigs of the week.

Tini
Pygmalion, Dublin 10pm €10 facebook.com/tini
Tini Gunter is in the house. The Munich native has been rising up the ranks over the last couple of years with a finely-tuned ear for deep house grooves bringing her to the attention of astute clubbers throughout Europe. She's worked closely with Loco Dice's Desolat label, released the excellent Tessa album, established herself as a name to be reckoned with at clubs like Berghain and Cocorico and found much love and acclaim on seasonal trips to Ibiza as well as festivals like Awakenings and Timewarp.

Abdullah Ibrahim
NCH, Earlsfort tce, 8pm, €39.50/€34.50/€29.50, nch.ie
Abdullah Ibrahim was playing in a small jazz club in Switzerland in 1963 when Duke Ellington walked in and decided that the world needed to hear this great South African pianist. More than half a century later, Ibrahim is still worth it – a Zen master at the piano who plays the silences between the notes. A long-awaited solo performance from a living legend.

SATURDAY

The Cult
Vicar St Dublin 7.30pm €45 (sold out) vicarstreet.ie.
Also Sun, Belfast

It has been over 30 years since their biggest hit song, She Sells Sanctuary, blasted its way into our heads, but still The Cult continue to click their Cuban heels. Recently released album, Hidden City, will be rifled, no doubt, but we know which tune will receive the biggest cheer on the night, don't we?

Black Bank Folk
Liberty Hall 8pm €15 ctb.ie
Delving beneath the surface of the 1916 Rising, in search of the human stories yet to be told, this new project, conceived by John Colbert and James Sheeran, finds its full voice tonight in this debut performance featuring guests Damien Dempsey, Paddy Casey and others. Tonight also sees the launch of a CD to celebrate the composition of a raft of new songs documenting the more intimate moments from that fateful period of our history.

Dónal Lunny and Paddy Glackin
Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh 8.30pm €20 siriusartscentre.ie
Two musicians who've worked together and separately to bring traditional music centre stage, while at the same time, interpreting it afresh. These veterans of The Bothy Band, and so many other all-star traditional music ensembles, come together for an intimate gig tonight.

Republik
Project Waterford €12/€10 republikmusic.com
Patrice Baumel's association with such blue-chip European electronic music brands as the Trouw club and Kompakt label have done him no harm at all. His early releases for labels like Get Physical and !K7 were full of dynamic tech colour and light, while his long-running association with classical crossover projects has shown a desire to broaden his mood board. Support at his debut in the southeast from Kenno and Warren Sauvage. JC

Ghostly International
Opium Rooms Dublin 11pm €18/€15/€12/€10 ghostly.com
Co-founded by Sam Valenti and Matthew Dear in Michigan in the late 1990s, the Ghostly International label has become an imprint many house and techno fans continuously put their trust in. Tonight's showcase features sets from current label stars Shigeto (AKA Detroit producer Zachary Saginaw), Lord Raja (newcomer Chester Raj Anand who will be showing off his new breed instrumental strutting) and Heathered Pearls (the label's Polish connection and ambient techno shapeshifter Jakub Alexander). JC

Puzzle
Monroes Galway 9pm €16/€12 facebook.com/puzzle.vents.7
It's a night of big boom on Dominick Street with Puzzle hosting a night of heavyweight bass warriors. Dutch DJ and producer Fre4knc has come far from his Break-Fast events in Groningen with releases for Samurai, Dispatch and Invisible introducing his sound to new frontiers.
Italian native Disprove is another rising star, with releases for Renegade Hardware, Invisible and Eatbrain pushing his neuro-hop and bass agenda. They're joined tonight by old skool selector Noise Agent as well as Puzzle residents Wendy, Zanmato, Scimmia and Burden.

SUNDAY

Taylor Davis
Sugar Club Dublin 7.30pm ¤22 thesugarclub.com
The output of Illinois violinist Taylor Davis straddles genres and contexts. Does composing on Logic Pro (digital audio equipment) make her any less of a musician? Does composing for videogames and having a YouTube presence (she has more than one million subscribers) make her any more relevant to the masses? Questions, questions – we'll have a look-see here and let you know.

Strangers: Film and Drawings
Trish McAdam. Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Until April 24 butlergallery.com
Trish McAdam, currently working on a feature film about Maud Gonne and WB Yeats in the years 1916-1918, shows six short charcoal-drawn animated films, plus some of the source drawings. The animations are not solo runs, and do involve various collaborators, but by comparison with a typical film production, McAdam found the process direct, personal and immediate.
