A High Court report in Wednesday's editions on the refusal of bail to Mr Joseph Kavanagh stated incorrectly that Mr Justice Kelly had said he preferred evidence given by two garda officers who had investigated claims by Mr Kavanagh that he was coerced into committing the alleged crime, that such claims were devoid of substance.

In fact, what Mr Justice Kelly did say was: "It is neither necessary nor appropriate that I should consider this aspect of the matter since the applicant's defence of duress per minas is really one for the court of trial. It is to that forum that the task of deciding the truth of the situation falls. It is enough for me to say that the Garda belief of what actually occurred could not be described as fanciful or devoid of substance." {CORRECTION} 97022000063
