A CORK silver circular freedom box, engraved with the Cork coat of arms and made by George Hodder about 1750, sold for £3,200 at last Wednesday's sale of silver and jewellery at Woodwards of Cork.
Other Cork pieces sold well on the day. A bright cut, boat-shaped sugar basket by John Warner sold for £1,800; and a circular sugar bowl by William Morrissey (c1775) made £1,300, as did a sauceboat by Carden Terry, also from about 1775.
Elsewhere in the sale, a George III Irish circular tray made £2,100; a pair of Irish sauceboats dating from around 1800 fetched £1,800; and a pair of Dublin salvers, dated 1823, sold for £1,300.
