George III bureau bookcase makes £4,200
A GEORGE III mahogany bureau bookcase fetched £4,200 at last Sunday's auction conducted by Town & Country in Swords, Co Dublin. Other prices included £2,050 for a Victorian mahogany dining table, £1,050 for a Victorian walnut three-door wardrobe and £1,100 for a Georgian-style mahogany chest-on-chest.
Plain sailing for oil with maritime theme
A Victorian oil depicting ships sailing in choppy seas made the highest price at last month's auction in Drum's of Malahide, Co Dublin; it sold for £1,400. A Victorian cylinder-top desk with fitted interior went for £1,300, a rosewood and satinwood inlaid Victorian chiffonier cabinet sold for £800, a walnut-cased upright piano went under the hammer for £750 and a mid-Victorian mahogany breakfront wardrobe fetched £500.
