Keir Dullea, who plays Dave Bowman, one of the two astronauts in Stanley Kubrick's fascinating 2001: A Space Odyssey, will introduce a screening of that movie in glorious 70mm at the Irish Film Institute at 6.15pm on May 21st.
Dullea won the Golden Globe for best male newcomer in 1963 for the intimate drama, David and Lisa. He went on to feature in movies as diverse as the tear-jerker Madame X, Otto Preminger's thriller Bunny Lake Is Missing, and the cult horror flick Black Christmas. He also played the eponymous marquis in De Sade (1969), which was considered so risqué for its time that it was banned in Ireland.
More recently featured in Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherdand Griffin Dunne's The Accidental Husband. He is in Dublin to appear in the stage production of The Shawshank Redemption, which begins previews at the Gaiety next Thursday.
