US external rotor fans and blowers manufacturer, EBM Industries, said yesterday it would open a £4.4 million (#5.6 million) facility in Portlaoise creating 145 jobs over five years. The facility, EBM Ireland Limited, supported by IDA Ireland, will manufacture fan and blower assemblies which provide cooling systems to maximise the life of electronic components.

The Tanaiste, Ms Harney, said the facility was a major boost for the local economy and should lead to further positive developments for the county.
