AVOID: Spreading misinformation, myths and urban legends
IN THE wake of Osama Bin Laden’s death last weekend a Martin Luther King quote started doing the online rounds, particularly on Twitter. “I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.” – Martin Luther King jnr, went the quote, which was re-tweeted by thousands. Only problem: MLK never said it.

PREDICT: The winner of the Eurovision song contest - OMG!
THERE ARE many things in life that have been improved immeasurably by the web. But Google’s Eurovision “predictor” gadget is not one of them.
Based on Google search data, it shows how popular each participant is and then calculates the scores they would get if the voting took place today.
The caveat: only half the votes on the night come from the public, with the rest being cast by the dreaded juries.
The bad news: Jedward look on course for a win.

INSTALL: Viber for free iPhone calling
INTERNET CALLING services have been around for a long time but Viber takes things to the next level by being far simpler than the competition. There are no user names or registration. Simply install the app on your iPhone, your phone number becomes your ID, and the app scans your phones address book to see which of your contacts are already on the service. Calls are free but the quality can be patchy and calls can drop if you don’t have a good 3G or Wi-Fi signal.
Blackberry and Android versions are in development, with the beta test of the Android version released earlier this week.
