Sun Microsystems in the US will shut down for a week in July, asking employees to take holidays or take unpaid leave during that period, company sources said on Wednesday. The company employs more than 250 people in Ireland and last year announced plans to increase this to 600 over three years at its strategic software development centre in Dublin.

A Sun spokesman was not immediately available to comment and it was not clear if the Irish operations would be affected.
