One more thing . . . the last word as I head off for pastures new

After almost six years, this is my final One More Thing column. The column will continue, just not with me at the helm. Please, no tears.

It’s probably the worst kept secret around town that I am taking over the Finance Correspondent’s role vacated recently by my colleague Simon Carswell, who is now serving a tour of duty for this newspaper in Washington DC.

The role should keep me busy and will involve me switching to the Wednesday column on the front of the daily supplement.

A lot has changed in Irish business since 2007, when One More Thing began.

The boom was starting to get less boomier, as Bertie Ahern might say, although none of us would have forecast how the economy would be turned inside out over the past six years.

There wasn’t even a daily business supplement in The Irish Times.

Over the years, One More Thing has tried to cover a diverse mix of topics in the finance space with a light touch. It mixed a bit of gossip and the offbeat with some weightier subjects.

It can be a bit of a monster to feed, so thank you to all those who assisted me in pulling the column together over the years. From those who helped with sourcing the various stories to a range of colleagues in editing and production (notably Justin Comiskey and Brian Blake of late), who often had to put up with late copy and last-minute changes to the running order.

Just one more thing . . . thank you for reading the column. Hopefully it kept you interested and entertained.
