A new mobile base station antenna that is safer, less unsightly and more cost-effective to install than conventional models is being developed by a group of researchers at Queen's University Belfast.

The prototype antenna, which was demonstrated at CeBIT 2001 exhibition this week, incorporates sophisticated retrodirective transceiver arrays that transmit energy only in the direction of an incoming signal.
