Omega Air, the aviation company owned by the McEvaddy brothers, Des and Ulick, has threatened to take legal action against the European Union if the EU goes ahead this month with plans to ban older aircraft fitted with noise mufflers or "hushkits". Omega buys old aircraft and refits them with hushkits before leasing them and, according to Mr John Steele of Omega's advisers, Prisma Consulting Group, the Irish group has already spent $60 million (€56 million) on old Boeing 707 aircraft which have then been refitted. "If the legislation goes through as it stands, it'll ruin them," Mr Steele said.
