Quinn Direct insurance has called for the implementation of awards and pre-trial procedures guidelines similar to that in Britain to cut down the costs of road accident claims.

Mr Kevin Lunney told the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business that the largest costs in insurance related to personal injury claims and that there was an "unacceptable" level of fraudulent and exaggerated claims" which must be weeded out.
