Hundreds of events taking place to celebrate International Women’s Day

Up to 1,000 delegates to attend IWD event at Convention Centre Dublin

If those of us possessed of two X chromosomes find ourselves feeling a little bit special this week, it could be because of the hundreds of events taking place around the world to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2015, which falls on Sunday.

Events in Ireland range from a women's rugby open day at Middleton RFC, Co Cork, to the "International Mott's Day Party" at Dublin's Sugar Club. There's plenty going on in the business sphere too, most notably Accenture's IWD event in the Convention Centre Dublin on Friday.

Up to 1,000 delegates (both women and men) are expected to attend what is slated to be the biggest IWD get-together in the country.

At the “Leaders Panel” session, Vodafone chief executive Anne O’Leary, Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald and Danielle Ryan, chief executive of the Roads Luxury Group, will be discussing the need to think big in order to fulfil your potential.

The Accenture event will also shine a spotlight on entrepreneurs, with a number of female chief executives due to talk about their experiences in starting a new business.

“This event will bring together women leaders from sectors as diverse as technology, telecoms, politics and fashion who will share their personal journey of making it to the top,” said Paula Neary, who leads Accenture’s Accent on Women programme.
