The High Court will decide later this week on the wording of issues to be put before the European Court of Justice (ECJ) concerning whether the courts here or in Cyprus should determine the dispute between Anglo Irish Bank and businessman Seán Quinn and his family about their international businesses.
Mr Justice Frank Clarke said last month he would ask the ECJ to determine the jurisdiction in which the dispute should be heard. When the matter was mentioned yesterday, he received submissions from both sides concerning the wording of the question to be put before the ECJ and will rule on the matter later this week. The referral arose after Anglo applied for injunctions earlier this year restraining the Quinns making changes to their international businesses. The bank is owed an estimated €2.8 billion by the Quinns.
