The UK Department of Trade and Industry conducted 228 full investigations into companies' affairs in the 1997/98 year, a report showed. The main types of alleged misconduct were theft with 123 cases, fraudulent trading with 37 cases and management of companies by banned directors, where 29 cases were reported. A total of 1,479 complaints were considered in detail, the report said.
