Looking for an upside to the tales of economic gloom? In Silicon Valley, anecdotal evidence indicates that the decline in the fortunes of dotcoms has been mirrored in a decline in traffic congestion. Those helicopter traffic reporters have been marvelling on air at the lack of jams at the usual bottlenecks and believe tech layoffs are the reason. Newspaper reports note that California state transportation officials remain unsure of the source, but agreed that dotcom downfalls may be responsible.
