Compaq grows in Scotland

COMPUTER giant Compaq has announced plans to create more than 200 jobs at its Erskine plant near Glasgow.

COMPUTER giant Compaq has announced plans to create more than 200 jobs at its Erskine plant near Glasgow.

It said the new positions were part of its "continuing expansion into the next millennium" with its aim of becoming the third largest computer company in the world by the year 2000.

The Scottish operation makes computers for the European market and the announcement, according to Compaq, is a recognition of 10 years successful operating in Scotland. It increases the workforce to more than 2,000.
