Germany's Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank abandoned merger talks yesterday after differences over valuation killed a deal in the second major blow to German banking consolidation this year. Commerzbank's drive for near parity of valuation in a merger with its larger rival Dresdner Bank appeared to scupper a deal leaving the Frankfurt-based institutions facing the prospect of becoming takeover targets for foreign banks.
