TownCentres:Bray Town Centre Rejuvenation Committee has announced a package of measures to "rejuvenate, revitalise and revive" the town centre over the next 12 months.

Independent retailers will be eligible to claim grants of up to €7,500, around 40 per cent of the cost of installing new shopfronts on their premises. The funding is being made available by Bray town council which has also undertaken to fast-track planning applications.

The town council, along with Bray Chamber of Commerce and Fleetwood Paints, has also undertaken to paint all exposed masonry facades and gables in the business areas.

Additional car-parking space is also being made available. On Saturdays, there will be an extra 200 parking spaces in the Civic Centre car-park on Main Street while a further 113 spaces will become available Monday to Friday at the Carlisle Grounds.

With Ballymore Developments now pushing ahead with its new shopping centre, there will be an additional 537 spaces available towards the end of 2008 or early 2009.

The town council also has plans for a multi-storey car-park at Herbert Road to provide 500 spaces by 2010.

The business initiative will also involve an improved maintenance and cleanliness programme in the town and stricter enforcement of the litter laws.
