The Irish Bankers' Federation has warned that the Minister for Finance's proposal to establish a statutory ombudsman scheme may result in the termination of the 10-year-old bank-funded voluntary scheme. Incoming president, Bank of Ireland's head of retail banking, Mr John Collins, said this would be "a great shame" and may result in a less accessible and more unwieldy complaints process for consumers.
