AB Airlines, the low-cost carrier which operates out of Shannon airport, is to float on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in London, it has been disclosed. The airline, which replaced Ryanair at Shannon, will seek a listing before the end of the year in an attempt to raise capital to expand its operations.

The main shareholder in the airline, which operates on routes to Gatwick, Toulouse and now Stansted, is Mr Brian Beal, an English air transport engineer.

The airline employs about 50 people in Shannon and yesterday announced the new route to Stansted, which begins shortly before Christmas. The company says it will need approximately 25 people to work on the new route between Shannon and Stansted.
