THE US-owned Pall Corporation is to invest $11 million (£6.5 million) in a new plant on the site formerly operated by Tambrands in Tipperary town, in which 250 people will be employed, writes Dick Grogan.

Some 100 jobs will be created over the coming year, rising to 150 after three years and 250 when the plant is in full production within five years. The new plant will produce blood filters used during the transfusion of red cells and platelets. The filters remove white blood cells which are known to cause complications during transfusions. Pall, with headquarters in New York, employs 8,000 people worldwide sales last year of £900 million.
