King's Hospital - 14 CBC Monkstown - 5:School's Rugby: Number eight and captain Shane Young crashed over deep into injury-time to ensure King's Hospital's victory over CBC Monkstown in the Leinster Schools' Senior League final at Donnybrook yesterday.
Indeed, Monkstown went in front when, from a maul on halfway, the ball was moved for out-half Justin Kinch to Ken Casey and the full back showed great speed for the opening try.
It looked as though this might give CBC the initiative to build on their lead with Leinster Schools' number eight Ron Boucher a big presence in their back row. But King's Hospital were having none of it and responded with a try from a rolling maul by tight head Gerard Moran, which was converted by loose head Craig Telford to give them a 7-5 lead at the break.
It could have gone either way. Hooker Stephen Verso, second row David Power, Casey, centre Paddy Flynn and Boucher fought bravely to salvage the game for Monkstown. However, the cruelty of sport was emphasised three minutes into injury-time when Hospital's number eight Shane Young drove over for the insurance try and Lett converted the points.
