Dougie Walker, the Scottish European 200 metres champion, is this morning battling to save his career and reputation after the disciplinary hearing into allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs, being held at a secret location in London, dragged into a second day.

The 25-year-old Edinburgh athlete tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone in an out-of-competition test last December. Walker claims he has no idea how the substance came to show up in his urine sample.

He must now convince the three-man panel of Ian Mill QC, Mike Turner, a doctor and the former British Olympic team manager, and Professor Ron Maughan, an expert in human physiology. If he fails he will be given a two-year suspension and banned from ever representing Britain in the Olympics.
