GOALKEEPER Andrew Mulliner was the star of League of Wales' win over an under 23 National League side at St Colman's Park last night.

Mulliner made two crucial saves in the second half which was dominated by the Irish - holding a free kick from Gareth, Cronin and then later turning over a fierce shot from Mark Reid.

Wales took the lead after just nine minutes when a free from Gary Evans was swept past goalkeeper Michael Dempsey by Frank Mottram. It was one of precious few chances created by the Welsh side.

The National League selection were almost level when a lob from Brian Byrne was tipped over by Mulliner minutes before half-time and again when a free from Colin Tresson was narrowly wide. But the Irish failed to take advantage of the chances they created.
