United open against Villa again

Manchester United have once again been pitted against Aston Villa in the English FA Cup third round

Manchester United have once again been pitted against Aston Villa in the English FA Cup third round. Alex Ferguson's side will travel to Villa for their fourth meeting in the past seven seasons at that stage of the competition.

United, beaten finalists last season, have won each of the three previous meetings in 2002, 2004 and 2007.

Holders Chelsea were handed a home tie against QPR while 2006 winners Liverpool will travel to Luton or Nottingham Forest.

Premier League leaders Arsenal travel to Championship side Burnley while there are three other all-Premier League meetings with Tottenham hosting Reading, West Ham facing Manchester City and Wigan travelling to fellow strugglers Sunderland.

Havant and Waterlooville manager Shaun Gale admitted he was disappointed not to be pitted against a Premier League club after his side were drawn against either Swansea or Horsham.

Havant have enjoyed an magical cup run so far - they have dumped out York and Notts County - and Gale is confident they can maintain their adventure whoever they are up against in the next round.

"It's disappointing, but it's absolutely a winnable game," he said. "No disrespect to Horsham but we would prefer Swansea, you've got to look to the next round, whether it be against Horsham or Swansea we've got a chance."

Havant and Waterlooville are in the hunt for promotion to the English Conference's top tier and Gale concedes he will have a task on his hands ensuring his players concentrate on the job in hand when they return to league action against St Albans next weekend.

"We need to get the players back focused, we've got some tough league games coming up," he added. "This doesn't happen every season. You get a lot of ups and downs in football and you need to make the most of the ups and enjoy it while you can."

Horsham manager John Maggs, meanwhile, feels his side have already been handed a place in the third round as they prepare for their replay against Swansea next week.

The non-league side side battled bravely to draw 1-1 with their League One opponents last week and earn their spot in the hat for the third round.

"It's not the draw everyone would have been looking for, but the replay next week against Swansea is our third-round tie," Maggs said. "We were already in the hat and we were lucky to already have the Swansea game in the bank.

"If we are fortunate enough to get a result at Swansea a lot of our supporters will be looking at the fourth round. We are looking forward to playing on a good surface. Our players can play, Swansea will see a different Horsham side - we're going there to get a result."

Nottingham Forest midfielder Neil Lennon is relishing the challenge of facing Liverpool at the City Ground provided his side can overcome Luton in a replay next week.

He said: "It is fabulous draw but it will be a difficult away tie at Luton. We played there a few weeks ago and were well beaten.

"However we have the incentive of facing Liverpool and that would be a fantastic occasion for everyone."

Meanwhile, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer believes his former club have been handed a difficult tie away at Championship side Stoke.

He said: "It is a tough draw. The FA Cup is a great competition and very special in Newcastle. Like everyone else I just hope results improve."
