Six unanswered points in a sparkling 14-minute spell in the second half for the Mayo side laid the foundation for Tooreen's narrow win over Sligo champions Tubbercurry in this Connacht club hurling championship quarter-final at Markievicz Park on Saturday.
Tubbercurry went into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead after 10 minutes, their goal coming from Brian Walsh after five minutes. Tooreen opened their account with a Pat Freyne point from play in the 12th minute, but the home side kept their composure to lead 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time.
In an exciting finish, a longrange free from prolific Tubbercurry midfielder Paul Seevers ended up in the Tooreen net two minutes before the end.
